This was the first practice debate tournament of the season, and was conveniently held in Frisco. It was also only two days instead of three. We got up early Friday and drove up to Frisco, and watched Cupcake debate, while volunteering. Domestic Goddess had the opportunity to time rounds both days, which she enjoyed, except for when she didn't win the prize for the person who timed the most rounds. I had to listen to some crying on this one. On Saturday, Princess and the Boy had to accompany us, which meant we spent most of our time in the van, eating french fries and watching "Up!" for the ninety-seventh time. Cupcake did not go on to the final round, which was actually in the plan, as both she and Domestic Goddess had to be at dress rehearsal in a neighboring city that afternoon for dance. We rushed to that, and returned home about 5 o'clock on Saturday, exhausted!
Cupcake had a good time debating, though, and of course, hanging out with her friends!
This weekend was also St. Nicholas Day. The kids put out their shoes at night, and in the morning, St. Nicholas had filled them with small ornaments, candy, holiday socks, and other small trinkets. Every year each child gets an ornament to symbolize something about them that year. Cupcake got pointe shoes, Domestic Goddess got a baker ornament with a tray of cookies, Princess got a Princess ornament, and The Boy got a dinosaur ornament.
Such a great tradition. I think I might have to start a new one this year.
