December 11 and 12, 2009

This was the weekend of the infamous dance recital, Emma! Long awaited, and very excited, the girls spent pretty much the entire weekend dancing. As parents, we spent the entire weekend watching, applying makeup, or chauffeuring them back and forth.

Domestic Goddess also had the opportunity to see 101 Dalmations, the Musical in Dallas, at the Music Hall with her Achievement Day class and leader. I went along because it was the only way to get Domestic Goddess back to her dance recital on time. It was a fun show, and we enjoyed spending some time together. We were a little late, because this was also the day that I took Domestic Goddess to the American Girl store for her birthday. She decided that a trip to the store to pick out doll clothes and accessories was better than a friend birthday party. The Galleria was packed, and we had a difficult time parking and finding everything she wanted in the store, but she came out with some fun outfits, that I made her wrap up until her birthday!

Anyway, back to Emma. Emma is somewhat like the Nutcracker, with some similiar elements. It is really a fun show because it incorporates so many different types of dancing and sets.

Cupcake had to perform in all 4 performances of the show, so she performed on Friday night, Saturday matinee, Saturday evening, and Sunday matinee. She played the part of a Mermaid and an Arabian in all 4 shows, and stood in as a flower for another girl in the Saturday matinee show. She auditioned for the part of the Mermaid, so she was excited to have this role! Domestic Goddess only performed twice--Saturday evening and Sunday matinee.

I was able to take Princess to see the show on Saturday evening, and Decatur Aunt and cousins met us there. Grandma and Grandpa were also there to see the show! I had the opportunity to sit next to a cousin, who has a wonderful habit of honesty, and she was hilarious! When the male ballet dancer came on in tights (of course!), she said, "WHY would they LET HIM come out like that? Without any pants on?" She had a million questions the entire night, which kept us all entertained!

After the show, the dancers and Grandma and Grandpa, and Decatur Aunt and cousins, went to Chili's for dessert. It was late, but we had a great time!

On Sunday, after the show, both girls had their Christmas piano recital. Cupcake played a Christmas medley of "Silent Night", and Domestic Goddess played an arrangement of "Jingle Bells". This is the recital that only fellow students are allowed to attend, and the kids eat pizza while they listen. Immediately after that, we went to the stake's performance of "An Evening of Christmas Joys" to enjoy some beautiful holiday music. It was a crazy weekend!
